Note on Husband: George Henry ROWE
In 1881 George is a servant for John Northam at Middlecott, Rackenford. By 1891 he is back with his parents and is working as a Waggoner. In 1901 he is at Bampton with Emma, his father-in-law and the three children, working as a Carter on a farm. In 1911 Henry has written his entire name in reverse, as well as that of son Henry so they appear in the census as Rowe G Henry. They are at Beare Village, near Broadclyst. There is no sign of Emma, and the only children are Ellen, Henry and John. Henry has recorded that he has been married 15 years, that 4 children were born, and 4 were still living. The enumerator has crossed this line out. It is the line that is generally associated with the wife of the house, so this may mean that Emma has died, or is known to have left. Henry has recorded his status as married, not widowed.
