Note on Husband: Edward Malcolm THOMAS
Edward Thomas was born in Canada and became a US citizen in the 1880's. He was Captain of the ferry boats Hiawatha and Ariel that ran across the St Clair River between Port Huron, MI and Sarnia for over 54 years. He was well liked and very active for his age, still working at age 81. He slipped on the boat dock, hitting his head. he seemed to be recovering, but died 5 days after the injury. He was laid out in the family home. His granddaughter, my mother, Dorothy Thomas, took his death hard, as they were quite close. She was 12 years old at the time of his death and never liked the smell of roses from then on because of all the roses sent to his funeral. Diane Merriman
