Individual Note
In 1891 Samuel was a pupil at the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys in Wood Green Totteham. He used the name of Reginald. Before 1896 Reginald had emigrated to the Hawaiian Islands, where he became a luna (a field supervisor). It seems likely that he was sent back to the UK to recruit people and he then met chemist James Wallace Donald, who was to marry Reginald's sister Violet. He was known in the family as Uncle Redshoes. At one time he was manager of a local hotel on Waikiki. He never married.
