Note on Child 3: John Drew
John Drew was an engine driver, and moved around the country to follow the work. He drove the engines building the Lake Vyrnwy Dam - the first stone-built dam of its kind in the world, flooding the head of the Vyrnwy Valley in Snowdonia to supply water to the city of Liverpool. The dam was started in 1881 and completed in 1888. By 1891 he is a crane engine driver living with his family in Hathersage, perhaps working on one of the dams in the Peak District.
At the age of 56 he emigrated to Canada with sons Jack and George, arriving in 1912. Elizabeth and the rest of the family followed on 21 November 1913, on the Lake Manitobe Steamline from Liverpool to St John's, New Brunswick. They travelled by train to Keewatin, Ontario, where John and Elizabeth lived for 35 years. John worked as a packer for the Lake of the Woods Milling Company12
