In 1871 James is unmarried at Bamson with his father and sister Lydia.In 1876 he marries Emily Collard from Templeton,at Bristol registry office. She is 15 years his junior. The 1881 census finds him in Pagham, Sussex, and in 1891 and 1901 he is still there, and has a large family. He is, however, buried in Puddington.^2,3,4

In 1901 Edwin and Urania are living at 50 Durham Street, Fratton, Portsmouth

In 1901 James is on the crew of HMS Duke of Wellington, docked at Plymouth. He seems to have bought himself out of the Navy in May 1901.

In 1901 John is a prisoner at HM Prison, Lewes, Sussex.
