In 1841 he is a labourer at Spreyton.In 1850 John Fey is a Carver and Guilder at Magdalen Street, Exeter. In 1861 he is carrying on the same trade at 249 and 250 High Street, Exeter. His brother Thomas is a Gilder's apprentice. In 1871 he is a photographer, at the same High Street address, giving his birth place as Spreyton.

In 1851 William is a groom at Portskewett, Chepstow. In 1861 he is married and described as a publican out of situation.

Note on Child 4: Thomas Fey

They are living at Strong Cottages when Thomas is baptized. In 1851 Thomas is with his mother in Exeter. In 1861 Thomas is at Great Baddow, Essex with with Ellen and son Robert Gutteridge Horatio. In 1871 Widowed Thomas is at Primrose Hill, Chelmsford. In 1881 he is at 28 Beech Street, St Giles, London.^3,7,8,9

Note on Child 5: Jane Fey

At the time of Edward's birth Jane is at Colleton Hill, Exeter. In 1861 she is widowed and is a servant in the house of an Indian Army family, the Campbells, who seem to have Exeter connections, as four of the family were born there. Edward is with his grandmother.
