According to John Heal in the Book of Crediton, the family business began with Edward Adams in 1792. Clearly that was not this Edward, though it may have been an uncle. No Edward has been found in the Crediton branch to fit the dates. Certaiinly this Edward took over the family business .

In 1881 Emma was widowed and living with her sons at 122 High Street, Crediton. In the 1878 Whites Dirextory she was listed as Printer, Stationer and Shoe Dealer at that address.

Note on Child 3: Edward Adams

The family is at 104 High Street, Crediton, roughly on the site of today's bookshop. Edward took over the business from his father. His elder brother John married my cousin Elizabeth Berry and moved to Crewkerne, where he either took over a business or started one there.

In 1878 Richard and Edward Adams are listed in Whites Directory as curriers and leather merchants at 105 High Street, Crediton. Their home address is listed as 100 High Street.
