At the 1841 census William is living with second wife Susan, and their children William 2 and John 3 months

He took over his father's business, which he moved to what is now Wistaria, Western Road in about 1842, where he is living at the 1851 census.

He is still living at 114 St Lawrence Green, Western Road, Crediton at 1871 census, but the builders premises at the back have by now been pulled down to make way for the Grammar School, and the yard has moved to its present site in Union Road. William Berry is at Union Road in Morris 1870 Directory, but it is not clear if this is father or son William Boddy Berry.

He is listed in Billings 1857 Directory as Builder, Western Road.

He is a gentleman, living in Western Road in Kellys 1866, and 1873 Directory. In 1878 the Harrods Directory refers to Mrs Berry in Western Road

The business won a countract to build and maintain 20 of the county's bridges, and to build stations at Crediton and Newton St Cyres. In fact the Berrys won a lot of lucrative railway work.

1878 in Whites Directory William is listed as living at North View Cottage, Union Road, and the yard - Wm Body Berry, builder and contractor - at Church Street.

1891 recorded at 1 Church Street,

By 1901 William and Mary are living at Elmsfield, Fordton

Member of Crediton Urban Distrct Council, Chairman of the Urban District Council in 1895, magistrate (sworn in at the Quarter sessions in Feb 1895), Lodge Master for the masons (he built the masonic hall)

In 1873 Directory , J.Berry Builder is at George Lane Plymouth

By 1881 census John Prawl Berry was described as contractor builder employing 30 men and 4 boys, living at 28 Caroline Place, East Stonehouse, Devon. .In an 1888 private directory John Berry is at 2 George Lane Plymouth. and Jno Berry,Prawe (sic) builder also appears at George Lane, resident at 2 Walker Terrace, is stll there in 1896, though there is no commercial entry then,and in 1906

1n 1901 Eliza is a Boarding House Keeper in Haldon Rd, St David's Exeter. She is still there in 1911. Niece Winifred Ellen Hooker is with her then.

Note on Child 4: Samuel Dunn Berry

In 1861 Samuel is a Linen Drapers apprentice at 49 and 50 Newington Causeway, Lambeth. At 24 Samuel is a Draper's assistant lodging in Carter Gate Newark

In 1881 he has married and started his family at 6 Magdalen Road, Exeter, where he is a linen draper

By 1891 the household, job is the same, as is their address.Daughter Ivy is not at home

In 1901 they have moved to 49 Magdalen Road, Helen is a college student and George is a wholesale drapery assistant.

In Kellys 1914,1919 and 1923 Directory a Samuel Dunn Berry is listed as a gentleman at 8 Western Road,Crediton, where he is also recorded in the 1915 Voter's List
