Separated from March 1899 because of John's ill treatment of his wife.
In 1891 and 1901 the family are at Blagdon Place Cottage, Crediton.
On 8th July 1899 John Ashplant's failure to pay maintenace for two of his children in the workhouse was raised at the Workhouse Board meeting.
On 3rd Feb 1900 the Board resolved to summons John for failure to pay 5s maintenance for his inmate children. He had also refused to remove them from the workhouse.
Th papers to instigate the prosecution were authorised on June 23rd 1900.
He was imprisoned three times for failing to pay the maintenance of his children, and had been released from prison only shortly befor his death.
