In 1871 census a John Browning Gen Labourer, b1827-8, his wife Mary, Son Nicholls, 15 blacksmith, and James, scholar,11, also all b in Tedburn were living in Stepney, and had John Tapson and Thomas Martin also labourers from Devon boarding with him, and Goshap Penwell and his wife Ann and son William visiting from Devon.
