Banns for James Saffin and Jane Clark were published in July 1853 at Cheriton Bishop. Both otp.
Initial speculation below, much of it now resolved by the census returns. What is clear is the use of the name Clark and Brimblecombe for the family.
A Jane Clark is working at Staddon Farm in 1841, next to Beera Cottage where James speculative parents are living - but the age is given as 15, and from 1851 census we speculate that she would only be 5 - No parents with that Jane. - THIS IS NOT JANE
Also in 1841 a Jane Brimblecombe is living on Cott Farm with daughter Mary, 7, Jane 5, and Ann 2.These Janes and the Ann match the ages for the 1851 census. This is next door to Budbrook, and to James Howard who appears as Jane's father in the 1851 census,
Jane Howard marries William Brimblecombe 9 Dec 1829. (Banns are published Sept - Oct 1829) She is living at Crockernwell. Witness is a James Howard. A William Clark Brimmicombe is buried Sept 20, 1849 in Cheriton Bishop, aged 68 years. Is this Jane's husband? Did she change her name to Clark for the 1851 census? IN FACT JANE IS RECORDED WITH THE REST OF THE FAMILY AS BRIMBLECOMBE IN 1841
Also a Jane was born Nov 15th 1835 to William and Jane Brimblecombe at Budbrook Cottage.
Finally, on July13th 1828 a Lydia was born - a base child - to Jane Howard - reputed father James Herr...? of Crockermwell SOME OF THESE FAMILIES DO APPEAR TO BE CONNECTED TO THE CLARKS
Banns for James Saffin and Jane Clark are published in July 1853 at Cheriton Bishop. Both otp.
At 20 working at Lambert, Crockernwell for Bailiff John Phillips
He was apprenticed to a Farmer John Philips in 1841, living at Bowdon Cottage, Cheriton Bishop with numerous other agricultural labourers. His brother George was at the same address.
Family address in PRs shown variously as North Bear, Bearah and South Bear
Jane seems to have been a servant at the Royal Oak, Cheriton Bishop in 1851
