Note on Husband: William DE BOYDELE

Knight, Lord of Dodleston, a benefactor of Dieulacres and Stanlowe Abbeys about 1228, confirmed his fathers grants by deeds dated 1250-1258. Died September 1272. Inquisition post mortem 2 Feb 1273. Bore a saltire on his seal in 1236, and three pierced mullets on a fesse on his recumbent effigy in Grappenhall Church. Crossed legs on the effigy indicate he went on one of the crusades. There are suggestions that the effigy in the church is his son Sir John.
