From Ralph Miller: "A funny story about George. According to Aunt Nan, he became restless and wanted to move to the New World. He took passage to America where, arriving with only 10 cents in his pocket, he bought a pencil and pad of paper. He wrote a story about his crossing and sold it to a local Manhattan newspaper (New York City). They hired him and he stayed on as a reporter. He stayed for about a year and decided to return to Scotland. Don't know if he was lonely
or the family refused to follow him. Anyway, when he returned to Scotland and walked into the house Agnes said, "So you're back". He said nothing, went to his room changed and came out to have dinner."
