In 1901 living at 32 John Street, Tiverton. Henry held many positions. He was Clerk of Works for Sir John Amory at Knightshayes Court. He constructed many of the buildings in Tiverton. He was Water Bailiff anfd Fire Brigade Captain as well as Church Warden. He was offered a job in Australia, to manage a saw mill. He left England with his youngest son Bob,on the SS Benalla, sailing from London on 28th July travelling 3rd Class to Sydney, arriving in Australia as war broke out. Henry would not take the job as men were being laid off because of the war, and he did not want to profit from their misfortune. Instead he purchased some land (147 acres) at Wyee, where he planted an orchard, and built his home. Lydia followed with Wallace and Muriel.1
