72 Inglethorpe Street, Fulham SW George is living with a single Housekeeper, Eleanor Shippe, aged 30, and her 6 year old daughter, Georgina, born in Fulham. The choice of name may be significant. In 1901 Eleanor had been working as a barmaid in Kensington. An Eleanor Fanny Shipp was born in Dry Drayton, Cambridge in Q2 1881. She has been recorded speculatively here as a partner. |

Cause: 1. Chronic Interstitial Nephritis (kidney failure) Adenoma of Prostate 5 years. 2 Uraemia 8 days. Address: 151 Holland Road, Kensington The informant was E.F Bubear, "widow of deceased". This was almost certainly Eleanor Fanny Shipp, who was George's housekeeper in 1911, and George was probably the father of her daughter, born in June 1904. (no father named on the birth certificate). However George and Eleanor never married. He was still married to Amy, and she was described as George's widow on her death certificate. |

According to Venn, George went to London at age 17. He initially worked for Thames Waterworks. At some time he was supposedly the landlord of the Duke's Head, Putney, and later of the White Hart at Barnes.
In 1887 he sailed to New York on the Servia from Liverpool, arriving on 18th April. He gave his age as 27, and was described as a sculler.
In Dec 1889 he sailed to Australia on Oroya, returned on 23 June 1892 on Ophir
In 1895 he sailed to New York with a party of scullers, including Gus Brewer, 30, William Caines (Haines?) 27, James Wingate 22 and Wm Barry , 24. On arrival at New York Bubear gives his correct age of 37(?) but on the English passenger manifest it is recorded as 22!
On 4 July 1896 he again sailed on the St Louis to New York, in the company of W.A.Barry, W. Haines and S Emmet - profession - scullers. His age was given as 24. On arrival at Ellis Island, (online recorded as Bulsar) his age is given as 36.
