By age 9 little Lucy was already working as a servant - a Child's maide in the house of Joseph Hambly, a carpenter in Cardinham, with a five-year-old daughter Elizabeth. By 1881 she was a servant for William Lean, a warehouseman from Liskeard, in Islington
