| Death | 6 Nov 1858 (age 39) | Calne, Wiltshire, England |
| Cause: Haemorrhage from the nose. Address: High Street 13 Nov 1858 Inquests taken before Mr. Whitmarsh At Calne on the body of Mr. Francis Goldsmith, 39 years of age, who had been the respected manager of the Wilts and Dorset Bank of that town. Martha Lovelock in the service of the deceased, stated, that her master went into the bank at 10 o'clock last Saturday morning, quite in his usual health, where he remained until she carried in his dinner at 2 o'clock, when he said that's all right. He was sitting at a desk writing. Within three minutes afterwards he rang a bell, and upon her going back, he was removed from the desk, sitting in a chair opposite the fire. Much blood was coming from the nose and mouth, and he attempted to speak but was unable to do so. She called Mrs Goldsmith to his assistance, and went immediately for medical aid, but he expired within a quarter of an hour afterwards. Doctor Pownall, stated that he was in attendance on the deceased a few minutes before he breathed his last, when he found him discharging blood from the nose and mouth profusely - the blood evidently coming from a ruptured vessell at the back of the nose. The haemorrhage was so considerable that death followed quickly after his arrival. Verdict, - "Visitation of God." Salisbury & Winchester Journal Saturday 13th November 1958 |
