INVALID'S DEATH FROM BURNS
Dog Raises Alarm At Stokeinteighnhead
Brother's Discovery
"I an perfectly satisfied that she was well looked after at her home, and can only conclude that be some misadventure she fell in the fire."
Mr. G.E.Windeatt, Deputy Coroner, made these remarks at Newto Abbot on Monday at the inquest [14.10.1935] on Miss Dorothy Eva [sic] Wright, aged 29, of Notre Desire, Combeinteignhead, Near Newton Abbot, who died in Newton Abbot Hospital on Sunday morning from multiple burns sustained at her home on Saturday.
The verdict returned was "Death by misadventure."
INVALID FOR 15 YEARS
Deceased's mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Wright, said her daughter, who had been an invalid for 15 years, dressed and came downstairs at 3.30 p.m. and sat in her armchair by the fireplace in the dining room. Witness had to go out later, and, in case anyone should call, she told her son, who lived close by, that she was going. She was later fetched from the village by her son, and, returning home, found her daughter badly burned. Witness said she had asked deceased what happened, and she said she slipped when gettin in or out of the chair.
Leslie A. Wright, son of the previous witness, said about a quarter of an hour after his mother had told him she was going to the village he heard the dog bark and screams. He rushed to the house, and found the dining room full of smoke and his sister lying in the fireplace. He dragged her away and smothere the fire with a cushion and his coat, afterwards going for help.
Other evidence was given by the deceased's father, Mr. Wm. G. Wright, Dr. G.Cromie, of Kingsteignton, and Dr. G.C.C. McVickers, of Kingskerswell.
