Alan was my 3rd cousin once removed.
Alan served in the RAOC (20+ years), with the BAOR in Germany, and several postings in UK, Far East (Singapore and Penang, parachute supply drops by Dakota to troops on the ground in Malay jungle), back to the UK and then to Libya (in time for King Idris to be replaced by Gaddafi then back to UK, and ended up as Bomb Disposal in N. Ireland during the height of “the troubles” (alleged life expectancy for BD officer was 6 weeks or so he was told in a motivational speech when attending a course on IRA/Prod bomb making techniques!).
