Western Times, 24 Nov 1868: Samuel was advertising a situation wanted as a miller - "By a married man with experience in all its branches. Good references"
In November 1865 Samuel Perry, the younger, miller, general shopkeeper and grocer, of Butterleigh and of Gold Street Tiverton, was declared bankrupt on 28 October 1865. On examination it was determined that his debts were £96, his assets £42. He was discharged in December 1865. .
In the 1870s Samuel owned property on Exe Island, Exeter. In 1876 it was reported that one of his tenants, a woman of ill-repute had been involved in a dispute with a drunken soldier over the alleged theft of a clock, the property of Samuel, and half-a-sovereign by the woman from the soldier.
In October 1883 Eliza Leach, a married woman from Portland who had been lodging in Samuel Perry's premisies was fined for stealing two bed sheets from his premises, identified by his initials, and pawning them.
