| The newly married couple went to California to settle in Riverside. There they acquired an orrange farm. Perhaps unsuccessfully, as they returned to Wales shortly after the birth of Freda. Soon afterwards, on his father's inheriting Blundeston Hall, they returned, more or less unwillingly we are told, to manage the Blundeston Hall estate. In 1916 the Blundeston property had to be sold by public auction. This was during the collapse of the economy during the first years of the First World War. Afterwards, Hardy and Florence Woods ("Gup" and "Grannie" to their grandchildren) lived successively in Paignton, Devon and Felixstowe Suffolk. |
