CREDITON SUDDEN DEATH: - On Tuesday afternoon Eliza Dally, widow of a stonemason, of Sandford, near this town, came back from Exeter by the 6.20 train, and on reaching Charlotte Street dropped down. She was taken into Mr. Pollard's house, but before a glass of water could be obtained she was dead. Medical assistance was obtained as quickly as possible, but of course to no purpose. Deceased was later in the evening conveyed to her home at Sandford. Western Times, 16 July 1880. |

in St Swithun's Devon & Exeter Gazette 2 May 1902 The funeral of Mr. James Dally, rural postman, took place on Tuesday afternoon. Deceased had been in impaired health for some little time, although he did his work up to within a week of his death. He had been in the postal service about 20 years, and was 52 years of age. A goodly number attended the funeral, the body being borne by eight postmen in uniform. Deceased being a member of the church choir for some years, the choir attended, and sang at the graveside the hymn "Jesus Lives!" The bells were chimed as the procession wended its way to the church. |

Walrond's Alms Houses DEATH FOLLOWS FALL Tiverton Almshouse Inmate At an inquest at Tiverton yesterday concerning the death of William Dally, aged 74, an inmate of Walrond's Almshouses, Tiverton, Herbert Phillip Walters, of Wellbrook Street, said that on Saturday he saw deceased suddenly turn round on the footpath and fall. He bled profusely from the head. Dr. Hamilton said that four stitches were inserted in the incised scalp wound caused by the accident. Death was caused by myocarditis and pneumonia, accelerated by the injury and shock following the fall. A verdict of "Accidental Death" was returned.
