35 Mortimer Road, Pontcanna Bhagarathi I was first climbed by a Japanese expedition team via its south-east ridge in 1980. The second climb included Charlie Heard, in 1983 with a British team led by Martin Moran and his three friends John Mothersele, Kevin Flint and Charlie via the west ridge. On 21 August, Martin Moran and Charlie reached the summit around 4.30 pm; the next day on 22 August, Charlie Heard died from a 3,000 feet fall while abseiling. His body could not be recovered. |

Charlie started climbing when he visited relations in South Africa.
