ALBION LAWYER DIES SUDDENLY
John E.B.Lewis Stricken With Heart Disease
PRACTICED IN NEW YORK
Deceased Had Been Driving Early
Yesterday Afternoon, and Was
Stricken While His Mother Was
Reading to Him—Sketch of Life
Albion, Dec 2, -- John E.B.Lewis, a prominent attorney of this village, died suddenly at his home, on Main-street, late this afternoon of heart failure, aged 60 years. Mr. Lewis had been driving during the early part of the afternoon, and at the time he was stricken, his aged mother was reading to him as was her habit.
John Lewis was the eldest son of the late Dr. Lewis of this village, and was born at Clarendon December 28 1849. On graduation from the village academy, he entered Hamilton College in the arts course, and graduated in 1870. The year following he formed a law co-partnership with Judge L.S.Signor, of Albion, which continued two years, when Mr. Lewis removed to New York and entered the law firm of Eavies & Work. In 1875 he severed his connection with this firm to form a partnership with William C. Beecher, son of Henry Ward Beecher, which business relationship was continued until 1894, when failing health compelled the retirement of Mr. Lewis from active life, at which time he resumed his residence in Albion.
The deceased was a member of Christ Church of this village and of Psi Upsilon college fraternity. Besides his mother, he leaves two children, Mrs. Anna Vesey, of Stockbridge, Mass., and Birdseye Lewis of New York; two sisters, Mrs. George P. Decker of Rochester, and Mrs. Henry Harrison, of Brockport, and one brother, James P. Lewis, an attorney in New York City. Mr. Lewis married Marianna Blakeman, of New York, who died some years ago.
Daughter of Birdseye Blakeman, successful publishing president, president of a pen company, prominent Republican, and
