SANDFORD AND DISTRICT SICK NURSING FUNDS AUGMENTED
Sandford and Upton Hellions District Sick Nursing funds were greatly augmented, when, by the permission of Mr. C. Hattin and Miss Hattin a largely attended whict drive was held on the lawn of their residence at "Blackhayes", Sandford. There were 35 tables in play. Mr. Hattin gave all the prizes, some being of silver, and Miss Hattin gave all the refreshments.
Fine weather prevailed and large numbers came from Crediton and many miles around the district. The duties of M.C. were discharged by Mr. James Daw of Sandford. Miss Hattin presented prizes to the winners. The refreshments were in charge of Miss Hattin, asisted by Mesdames W.H. Perriman, W.O.Snell, E.C.Harries, W.Sing, Clarke, Earnshaw, J.Wright and others.
Tuesday 26 April 1938, at Sandford Parochial Church Council, when the condition of the church bells was discussed, it was stated they badle needed rehanging. Estimates had been obtained for the work and materials, that would cost nearly £400 and they would have to find some way of raising the funds. At this point it was announced that Mr. Charles Hattin and Miss Mary Jane Hattin of Blackhayes had consented to provide the church with and extra bell (treble) at the cost of £51 10s.
On Saturday 9 December 1950 the Bishop of Creditgon attended a special service at Sandford Parish Church for the rededication of the restored bells, after rehanging and extensive repairs to the church tower and the dedication of an additional treble bell given by the late Miss M.J.Hattin
