67 Mosedale Street, Camberwell SE Leslie was boarding with Albert and Rose Gray - a labourer, in Camberwell. The Grays have three grown up children with them, and another boarder, Robert Taylor, a labourer, as well as Leslie. He has wrongly recorded his place of birth as Devon, which suggests they spent some time there after the family returned from Australia. |

In 1881 John was at home at Muckwell.John went to Australia between 1881 and 1891, where he married Charlotte Cecilia Carter, and had one son Charles L. Pitts.
By 1897 he was back in England, living at 39 Tavistock Crescent. By 1901 at Bankside, London, where he was a publican, at the Watermans Arms, 60 Bankside, with two sons, and wife. At his death in 1910 he was a Barman of 25 Mansion Street - his work address? Charlotte was informant of his death, and her address was given as 40 Earls Court Road West Kensington.
At the time of their marriage John is a merchant of Newtown Sydney, and Cecilia is a Domestic Servan, of Croydon NSW. They are married in a congregational church. Three years later John is described on Charles BC as a Butcher -
In 1881 Charlotte had swapped her names round and was at the Soldiers Daughter Home, Rosslyn Hill, Hampstead, London, where she was a scholar. At various times her place of birth was given as Dundalk, Rotherham and Doncaster. The 10th Royal Hussars were on duty in Ireland dealing with "Fenian" troubles after 1863. Her birth was registered for 1867 in Dundalk.
On 8 Sept 1885 Charlotte Cecilia sailed from Plymouth on the SS Belgic to Sydney, arriving on 25th October 1885. She was described as an 18 year old housemaid, from York, Church of England, able to read and write, and was listed amongst the single women on the journey. She took an assisted passage.
Australia
The church where they married in Australia was between present-day Sydney Cricket Ground, and Sydney Harbour.
The addresses where they lived all seem to be around Sydney in 1891 and 1894
