At 1881 census William was described as Butcher and farmer employing 3 men and one boy.
The couple were at Yeolands ( aka Yelland/Yoland) farm in 1891.In 1898 he was farm bailiff for Mrs Tremlett, at Sutton Farm. William and Mary were living with his mother and aunt in 1901, in the village, Sandford, at Mount Pleasant - occupation farm bailiff.
According to MMB's notes William and Mary went to live at Sutton Cottage as bailiff for widowed Mrs Tremlett on April 2nd 1898.
In April 1901 William and Mary went to live at Kingsnimpton Park, [sic] as Farm Bailiff to A.C. Vowder, Farmer Esq
