Note on Marriage

Sarah left her husband, Walter, on August 2nd 1930 but it was made official in court on the 13th. "At Ottery St Mary Sessions Sarah Jane Heard, formerly living at Payhembury applied for a separation and maintenance orderagainst Walter John Heard on the ground of persistent cruelty. Mr. M.J. McGahey (Exeter) appeared for the applicant, who he said had received a letter from the defendant intimating that he would plead guilty, take all the blame and begging her to return. She had been staying in the Honiton Union with five childen, one baby being in the hospital. The Bench made an order for £1 a week maintenance." Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 15 August 1930

Note on Husband: Walter John HEARD

Was Walter a servant with the Stoyles at Prowse Farm in 1901? Or was he a servant at Lower Woodbeer Farm, Kennerleigh with William and Jane Bragg.

In First World War he enlisted with the Lancashire Fusiliers, Regimental No 57168. He also served with the RFC, then the RAF, as a batman.
