| Cause: Charles suffered a fatal head injury whilst playing rugby. From his daughter: He lost his life on Crediton rugby pitch after a kick in the head caused a clot of blood. He was just 33 years old, was enjoying life after 6 years away in the war, when he had endured hardship in Burma for almost 3 years, |

Samuel was baptised as the illegitimate son of Susan Haydon, Servant. After Susan's marriage to John Drew he appeared with Susan and John in the 1871 census, as 1 year old Samuel Drew. However by the 1881 census John had several of his own children by Susan, and Samuel seems to have been sent to his grandparents. He was listed in the 1881 census with Samuel and Elizabeth as their 11 year old son. He appeared more correctly described in the 1891 census as the grandson of Elizabeth. In 1901 at Underhills Court, East Street.
On Sept 3rd 1885, Samuel was presented with a silver watch by Crediton Friends, "for saving life at the risk of his own." The watch passed to his in-laws in settlement of a debt, and is now in the possession of a Heard family member.
Still in Crediton in 1930 at Betty Lorraine's funeral.
